Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, founded in 1998, offers 95 acres of natural forests where orphaned chimpanzees, that have been rescued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority roam and forage daily. Many of these chimpanzees were rescued from the illegal pet and bushmeat trade and are unlikely to survive reintroduction to the wild. The sanctuary is open all year round to visitors who pay a nominal entrance fee to view to observe the feeding of the chimps from a viewing platform. Day and overnight visits are available.
